Minimize Potential Leakage (Doors)

A, surprisingly, frequent issue occurs where storefront doors are at, or near, the surface of building envelopes. See actual situations below.

How can potential water infiltration be mitigated at these conditions? Refer to the bottom of this blog…

Call us at (214) 361-8219 or send an email to Michael@MEBandAssociates.com.

Question:

How to minimize chance of leakage shown in next two photos at a door with a low profile threshold?

Leak below Door

Answer:

Avoid placing doors flush with the surface of the building envelope; instead, recess doors.

Doors without recess

Picture below is more preferrable since doors are recessed. Doors recessed

Also, consider awnings on new and existing installations.

“…The Nicest Development In The State Of Maryland…”

maple-lawn 6 photo

“…The Nicest Development in the state of Maryland…”  is quite a statement by the owner of this building in the Maple Lawn area. It’s a compliment to all involved with this area as well as this particular building. Brasher Design is the architect and Anco Inc. is the glazing contractor.

Multiple YKK curtain wall types were installed as well as glazed window-walls and doors. PPG’s Solexia SB60 is part of these glazed wall systems.

See article below.

“The Zebra Building”

301 E. Armour Rendering

One of our projects… This one is nicknamed the “Zebra Building” at 301 East Armour in Kansas City.

We are working with The Bratton Corporation (glazing contractor) for this unique building. This “Yuppieville” area project, as one person put it, is utilizing ultra high performing curtain wall, storefront components that are butt glazed and captured along with terrace-style doors. It also has ultra performing projected windows that are butt glazed.

Silliman Group, LLC developed this Kansas City project and Helix Architecture designed it.
